Conservation ImplementationConservation Practices that have been Applied in MontanaConservation practices applied (primarily between 1999 through 2008) through NRCS technical and/or financial assistance are documented by Montana NRCS field staff. Technical assistance in some cases is also provided by Technical Service Providers (TSPs) who have met proficiency qualifications established by NRCS. TSPs work directly for program participants where financial assistance is provided by NRCS. In order to provide citizens, policy makers, and other partners with an opportunity to better understand the scope of NRCS’s conservation activities in “Helping People Help the Land,” we have developed an applied practice table for each 4th code watershed (8-digit hydrologic unit) in the state. Watersheds were selected as the basis of the tables since watershed groups can often benefit from being aware of and evaluating the cumulative effects of conservation practices implemented at the local level. A summary table is provided for each practice by year for which complete practice location data was available. The conservation practices were applied during the year indicated. Note that recurring management practices are implemented on an annual basis, but reported only in the first year. The totals for any practice are not cumulative from year to year. Participants may have installed the practices without financial assistance or, they may have received financial assistance through participation in one of the following NRCS programs:
For more information on NRCS’s financial assistance programs, see Montana NRCS Programs Information about specific practices, operators, and locations of practices applied by NRCS clients is confidential under the Freedom of Information Act, and therefore is not directly available to the public. Watersheds with no or limited implementation of conservation practices may consist largely of federally managed lands, where NRCS's role is of limited extent. To view a table of applied conservation practices, select the watershed area of interest on the map or skip to the watershed hydrologic unit code (HUC) name/number link below. |
