The Federal Women's Program was established to implement a recommendation of
the President's Committee on the Status of Women and was later integrated into
the Federal EEO Program after the issuance of Executive Order 11478 (August
1969). The activities of the Federal Women's Program focus on employment needs
and problems of women as they relate to Federal personnel policies and
practices.
Program Objectives
- Increase the total number of women employed in professional, administrative,
and technical occupations.
- Eliminate concentrations of women in single-interval occupational series to
diversify and create advancement opportunities throughout all occupational
levels and all disciplines.
- Encourage the participation of women in all NRCS sponsored programs and
activities.
Specific responsibilities of the Federal Women’s Program include: disseminating information regarding progress women have made in obtaining
equal rights, recruiting women into the workforce, identifying barriers to
career development for women, and providing opportunities for women to advance
their careers.
Activities during the year include:
- Women's Equality Day, celebrated on August 26
- Take Your Daughter to Work Day
- Women’s History Month, observed in March.
