Earth Team Volunteers

  • 45,000 volunteers provided time to NRCS offices in 2006.
  • 996,00 hours were donated in 2006.
  • Value of volunteer time to the agency in 2006 = $17 million.
    (Note: The Federal Interagency Team on Volunteerism, of which NRCS is a part, has agreed to use the figure for the value of volunteer time as calculated by the Independent Sector.)
  • Volunteers donated 478 staff years to NRCS during fiscal year 2006.

2006 National Statistics on Volunteering

The following information is based on information provided by the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor.

  • 61.2 million people volunteered through or for an organization in 2006.
  • Volunteers spent an average of 52 hours on volunteer activities.
  • About 43 percent of volunteers became involved after being asked.
