MAXIFLEX Tour of Duty Fact Sheet

What is Maxiflex?

Maxiflex is an optional tour of duty consisting of a basic 8-hour day. Employees may vary starting and ending times so long as they are at work or on leave during the core time, which is 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Requirements

  • Employees who work more than 8 hours in a day are entitled to earn credit leave, up to a maximum of 2 hours per day.
  • Employees must establish an estimated daily arrival time. Any variation by more than 1/2 hour must be discussed with the supervisor in advance.
  • Using credit leave requires supervisory approval. Earning credit leave does not require approval.
  • Credit leave can be earned and used in 15 minute increments and carried from pay period to pay period. No more than 24 hours of credit leave can be carried forward from pay period to pay period.
  • Credit hours cannot be used until they are earned
  • With prior approval from the State Conservationist, credit hours may be earned for work that begins after 6:00 p.m.
  • To change to a maxiflex tour of duty, the employee must request approval from their supervisor prior to the beginning of a pay period.
  • Maxiflex tours must have a daily posting of clock hours in the first two lines of the "Clock Hours" section of the timesheet, if different than the normal tour of duty posted on the timesheet.
  • Credit leave cannot be earned for travel or work on Saturday or Sunday.
  • It is important that the employee, his or her supervisor, and the time input person keep each other informed on the hours of duty and absences.
  • Credit leave may only be earned when the employee is performing work.
  • NRCS's current guidance says that while in per-diem status, credit leave generally may not be earned for the time spent traveling to or from a temporary duty point. The daily work schedule may be varied so that travel occurs during the basic 8 hour workday. SEE EXAMPLES (All examples imply a 1/2 hour lunch).
