Funding Deadline for NRCS Wetlands Reserve Program ApproachingApril 16, 2007 For More Information: Bozeman-- The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) has set the deadline for private landowners to submit conservation program applications as June 1, 2007. One of the programs that the application deadline applies to is the Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP). The WRP is offered as a tool for landowners to use in the restoration, enhancement, and protection of wetlands on their property. Landowners have the option of choosing a permanent easement, 30-year easement, or restoration cost-share agreement when they enroll in WRP. Under each option, the landowner maintains ownership and control of access to the land. “Landowners that work to increase the acreage of wetlands in the United States are providing valuable benefits to society such as improved water quality and increased wildlife habitat,” said Chuck Gordon, NRCS acting state conservationist. “Through the WRP, landowners are compensated for the costs of wetland improvements.” NRCS accepts conservation program applications year-round. However, applications must be made by the June 1, 2007, cutoff date to be considered for funding in fiscal year 2008. Applications made after the application deadline will be considered in the next funding cycle. For more information about WRP, please contact the NRCS conservationist in the local USDA Service Center or visit http://www.mt.nrcs.usda.gov/programs/. --end-- "The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) prohibits discrimination in all its programs and activities on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, disability, and where applicable, sex, marital status, familial status, parental status, religion, sexual orientation, genetic information, political beliefs, reprisal, or because all or a part of an individual's income is derived from any public assistance program.
