1. Important Farmlands Factor

The soils’ important farmlands classification, as defined in NRCS’s General Manual, Part 401.20, Appendix A., is used to determine ratings for this factor. Prime, unique, statewide, and local importance are categories of important farmland used for this criterion.  Important farmland designations for each county in Montana are listed in the Field Office Technical Guide (FOTG), Section II-Cropland Interpretations. Soils classified “prime, if irrigated”, must currently be irrigated in order to receive the maximum scale factor of 100.
