Uploading Pedons to NASIS (PPT; 731 KB)

Uploading Pedons to NASIS

  1. Go to NASIS Product Information
  2. Under the Pedon heading, see “Instructions for Uploading Windows Pedon data into NASIS.”
  3. Follow the instructions on the http://nasis.usda.gov/products Web site.
    1. Zip the pedon.mdb file (the backend data only).
    2. Copy that file to the windowspedon ftp site.
    3. Send an e-mail to the Soils Hotline and include the following information:
      1. Name of the .zip file that you’ve sent
      2. Name of the NASIS site and Group that you want these pedons attached to.
  4. After following the upload instructions, you will receive an e-mail notifying you of the status of your upload.
  5. If you have received notice that the upload to NASIS was a success,
    1. Open NASIS and use the “_WinPedon_DataDump_byAreaOverlap_AK” query to load the sites, pedons, and transects that you just uploaded to NASIS.
      1. NOTE: NASIS will notify you of the number of records that were added to your selected set. Ensure that these counts match the number of records that were in your uploaded set.
  6. After your selected set has loaded, open the site table and check the set. Make sure this is the group of records you are interested in.
  7. If you need to move the set to another NASIS group, notify your dataset manager of the group you need these records moved to.

WARNING: If this set of uploaded pedons is REPLACING an earlier set of corresponding pedons, ensure that you either 1) Archive the earlier set to another group, OR 2) Delete the earlier set before adding the updated set to the same group.

WARNING: Replacing NASIS sites, pedons, and transects is currently discouraged by National Leadership.
