Involvement in this work has made it necessary for Service personnel to understand the meaning and proper use of the technical terminology used in water quality management, pollution control, and abatement programs. The following list of terms and definitions has been compiled from data published by the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency, Council on Environmental Quality, U. S. Department of Agriculture, U. S. Department of Interior, and Public Laws of the United States, and the State of Montana.
