Seed Collections

The objective of collecting these seeds is to obtain additional collections to secure representation throughout each species' range of occurrence. The additional collections will allow for a thorough evaluation and selection of potential ecotypes in the future. Seed is subsequently planted in evaluation studies to test performance and utility for solving conservation problems. For assistance with identification, visit the web pages in the following list.

Species needing 2013 seed collection from all areas in Montana and Wyoming

• silverleaf Indian breadroot Pediomelum argophyllum (synonym Psoralea argophylla) (PEAR6)
• large Indian breadroot Pediomelum esculentum (synonym Psoralea esculenta)(PEES)
• bluebunch wheatgrass Pseudoroegneria spicata (PSSPS) on the Plants Database
• riverbank grape Vitis riparia
• Canadian milkvetch Astragalus canadensis L.
• Slimflower Scurfpea Psoralidium tenuiflorum

Field offices should record all site information on Plant Collection Information forms (NRCS-ECS-580) and use grocery sacks, etc. for actual collection - Collect Large Samples! (30 to 40 grams, 1+ oz.) To facilitate testing, the PMC needs at least 30 grams of seed. For details on collection procedures see:
