Seed Collection List

The objective of this collection list is to obtain additional collections of eight species to secure representation throughout their range of occurrence.

Species needing 2009 seed collection from all areas in Montana and Wyoming:

The additional collections will allow for a thorough evaluation and selection of potential ecotypes in the future. To assist with identification a web page featuring colored photographs, line drawings, species descriptions, potential collection sites, bloom period and approximate time of seed maturity is provided for each species. Seed is subsequently planted in evaluation studies to test performance and utility for solving conservation problems outlined in the Long-Range Plans for Montana and Wyoming. Please schedule time for seed/plant collections of these species.

Field offices should record all site information on Plant Collection Information forms (NRCS-ECS-580) and use grocery sacks, etc. for actual collection - Collect Large Samples! (30 to 40 grams, 1+ oz.) To facilitate testing, the PMC needs at least 30 grams of seed. Form NRCS-ECS-580 is available through the hyperlink below or from the Bridger PMC.
