Steps in collecting, threshing, and cleaning seeds of Russian thistle (Salsola iberica.)

1. Collect entire plants before they start to tumble.
2. Spread plants on tarp to dry. Cover at night if outside building.
3. Crush plants by folding over tarp and walking on material.
4. Scalp screen to remove coarse material.
5. Fine screen to stop seeds, and let small tash drop through.
6. Air screen.
7. Air separate.
8. Store seeds after they reach moisture equilibrium.
