Stream Channel Conductivity
Channels can become plugged from debris torrents following rains on burned
areas. Runoff then flows over land or cuts new channels causing more erosion.
Possible treatments include frequently checking and cleaning out culverts and
removing only excessive amounts of loose debris from channel areas, leaving some
anchored debris for in-stream stability.

An NRCS employee checks to see if a culvert is blocked by debris flows.

Volunteers remove debris from a stream ravaged by flows after heavy rains
fell in the Bitterroot area after the 2000 fires.
