How to Obtain GIS Data from NRIS
Clicking on a Download link for NRIS will take you to one of 3 places:
- If the link takes you to the NRIS
home page, this data type can be downloaded from Data List under GIS
Data Access on the right side of the page. Click on the Data List link, then
use the search function to find the appropriate theme. These are statewide
coverages in Montana State Plane Projection.
- If the link takes you to the
On-Line GIS Data Bundler,
this data type can be custom ordered and clipped out by county, watershed,
or a wide variety of other criteria. After choosing your criteria, the next
page allows you to choose something specific within your criteria, like a
particular county. The next page provides several tabbed lists of GIS data.
Check the box next to any data layers that you want to download. Pick a
projection, enter your email, and click Go. All the data layers selected
will be automatically clipped to your selected boundary, projected to your
selected projection, and you will receive an email in a few moments
containing a link for downloading.
- The link may take you to a page dedicated to that particular data theme.
Just follow the directions on that page to access the data.
