Information About Water and Snow

  • Common Questions
  • Drought Information Sources
  • Riparian and Floodplain Management
Montana's rivers and streams need room to roam. Technical and financial assistance available from NRCS can help land owners and land managers maintain riparian and floodplain setbacks.
  • Snow Survey Program
The NRCS Snow Survey Program provides mountain snowpack data and streamflow forecasts for the western United States. Common applications of snow survey products include water supply management, flood control, climate modeling, recreation, and conservation planning.
  • The Gallatin Watershed Sourcebook: A Resident's Guide
Contains information on everything from the history of the Gallatin Valley to proper maintenance of your septic system. The Sourcebook is an outgrowth of a symposium held at the Museum of the Rockies in October, 1996, entitled “Know Your Watershed: The Gallatin.” The workshop was presented under a unique partnership of local groups interested in public education and natural resources conservation, including the Bridger Outdoor Science School, the Montana Watercourse, the Gallatin Conservation District, the U.S. Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Forest Service, Montana State University, Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, the Montana Water Court and other individuals.
